In their guidance on asbestos training, the HSE make clear the responsibilities that an employer has with regard to asbestos awareness training:
- As an employer, you are responsible for ensuring that your employees have sufficient training and knowledge, as well as the experience and ability, to work without causing any risk to themselves or to others.
- Equally, your supervisors and managers should also be sufficiently trained and be aware of their responsibilities.
- You have the responsibility for ensuring that your asbestos awareness training provider is qualified and competent to carry out the training.
In a footnote to the item on the competence of the training provider, the HSE emphasise that trainers should have sufficient practical experience in the asbestos sector.
